Watching television in the aftermath of Labour’s severe defeat in last week’s English local elections, a thought struck me. Gordon Brown is not electable. Why not? Because times are hard for most citizens and they need a dose of hope and optimism from their political leaders. Take David Cameron, Nick Clegg and Boris Johnson. They all offer this, together with youth and change.
Contrast the older, dour, unsmiling Gordon Brown. He could only win if the economy continued to do well. Alas, that is a forlorn hope.Author : Stanley Crossick
