Britain’s destructive media

The United Kingdom is in economic and budgetary crisis.  The Conservatives and Liberal Democrats have joined forces to provide a strong government, able to take the necessary unpleasant measures.

David Cameron and Nick Clegg and their parties have admirably compromised to establish a much needed consensual political culture.  There of course remain major differences.

The coalition will face many difficulties.  Is it useless to appeal to the media not to seek to highlight, exaggerate and indeed fabricate divisions?  The national interest demands some responsibility.  Most newspapers supported the Conservatives.  It would be great if they continue this support for a Conservative-led coalition.
