Why does Obama call it Britsh Petroleum ?

“Kicking ass” is not a phrase Europeans would expect to hear from a President, but it is understandable why President Obama used it.  What is not understandable is why he calls the company ‘British Petroleum” and not “BP”.

Ironically, British Petroleum changed its name to BP after the merger with US oil giant Amoco in 1998 (first being called “BP Amoco”).

Wrongly labelling the company British suggests an anti-British sentiment, hardly consistent with his recent reiteration of the so-called “special relationship” between the US and the UK.  Could it reveal deep-down resentment of his exoerience of British colonialism in Africa?
